北川民次 KITAGAWA Tamiji（1894〜1989）
大正から昭和にかけて活躍した日本を代表する洋画家であり、児童美術教育の先駆者。静岡県島田市に生まれる。1914年にアメリカに渡って美術を学び、21年から約15年にわたりメキシコで画家・美術教育者として活動。36年に帰国し、東京の洋画壇で活躍し、第⼆次世界⼤戦後は瀬⼾を拠点に制作を続けた。メキシコの風土や民衆の生活、さらにはバッタや蝶といった小動物を独特の太い輪郭線と鮮やかな色彩で描きました。社会風刺的な視点を持つ作品も多く残している。
