飯田哲夫個展
「昨日の上から塗ってます。」

色を塗り重ねる行為を通じて、ステレオタイプ化される私たちの生き方を、
そして方向づけられた社会を上塗りしていくことを表現します。

絵画の面白いところは、上から塗り直せることです。何が描かれていたか判らないくらいに厚く塗ることができます。あるいは、もとの色、筆の跡、盛り上がりを活かしながら塗り重ねることもできます。作家が絵の具を塗り重ねるとき、そこには、やり直したり、方向を修正したり、あるいは発展させたりという、作家の意思があります。
今回の個展は、「上から塗る」という行為を、私たちの生活、社会へと当て嵌めてみることをテーマとしています。私たちの生きる社会は、権力、資本、テクノロジーという強い色で厚く塗り固められ、それ以外の色は存在していないかのようです。私たちには、何もできないのでしょうか。
「コンテスタビリティ（Contestability）」という政治哲学の概念があります。「異議申し立てができる」ことを意味します。この言葉は、私たちの生活や社会を、上から塗り直せる可能性を示唆します。ただし、ここで重要なのは、何をどのように塗り重ねるかは自分で考えないといけないことです。私も今まさに、昨日の上から塗っているところです。
